Like Jay Rosen, I didn’t know exactly what rickrolling was. Now that I do, I agree that “bad links drive out good” to paraphrase Gresham’s law.

If you thought the links you followed here — or on any other part of this site — might take you to someone crooning about how they’re never gonna give you up, would you click on them? Nope. Even though the “cost” is small — you can hit the back button as soon as the YouTube title comes up — the price to the rickroller is high. To those who are rickrolled, their tormentor becomes briefly the electric fence between them and the net. |
