Local columns and blog posts are swelling my Google Alerts with discussion of micropayments, endowments, online fees, asset sales, non-profit ownership, and government assistance. Not to mention the old standbys of subscriptions and advertising.

From the 1990’s comes John Perry Barlow’s “The Economy of Ideas” with its suggestion for an electronic “ET call home” marker in digital files as well as self-destruct timers, to help differentiate between totally free on the Net and free with some constraints.

Henry Blodget NYTimes nuts not to charge subscription fee.
