User-generated content leading to new jobs in news organizations

As the multimedia news streams grows and content supplied by “users” becomes part of the news, new jobs are popping up. The latest is “group multimedia editor” for the Glasgow Herald, says Editors Weblog:

John Young, former picture editor of the Glasgow Evening Times, will be the first to hold the position. He will lead a team that will focus on all non-text content, including pictures, videos and podcasts, across the Herald’s three newspapers.

Young will also be responsible for overseeing the gathering and organization of user-generated content submitted to the Herald’s offering of 24 ultra-local community websites. Another 12 will be launched next Monday.
