The Democrat and Chronicle is seeking an innovative editor to fill the position of content coach for mobile, one of the top management positions in the newsroom.

This content coach guides reporters and photographers in planning for mobile first with the best storytelling approach for target audiences. He or she must be able inspire staff to experiment, learn and grow to meet rapidly evolving consumer needs. The coach works closely with journalists before, during and after the creation of content. The successful candidate understands how to use writing to reach specific audiences, how to tell stories in unique ways and how to use multimedia to complement the written word. This coach will work across the newsroom and will directly oversee the work of a team of reporters and photographers.

Requirements for this position include exceptional coaching ability, excellent communication skills, insatiable curiosity about the competition, effective use of metrics and experience with multiple storytelling techniques across platforms. Candidates also must have a bachelor’s degree in journalism or a related field and five years of media management experience.
