Starting today, Google Maps will make itself available offline (search and navigation) for Android, with iOS coming soon. This feature was first shown at Google I/O in May, and it’s pretty damn great.

This sounds interesting, and is probably related to the self-driving cars. Big advantages come from downloading maps you will need and then if you can’t be online, the map app will use the downloaded maps. Good to use when you can’t get a signal (this happens in my garage in Chicago) or if you are going to travel where you would have to pay roaming charges, like in a foreign country.
